Sober living · Lafayette

A sober place to come home to

Treatment happens a few hours a day. The rest of the day happens wherever you live. Through our partner, Riceland Sober Living Residences, you can live in a substance-free apartment, shared with people working toward the same thing, while you take part in our outpatient care.

Housing that works alongside your treatment

Four residents share each apartment, so you come home to people who understand early recovery instead of an empty room or an unsafe one. Riceland Sober Living Residences is a separate organization and a partner of Riceland Recovery. We can help connect you with the residence and coordinate with your intensive outpatient (IOP) or outpatient (OP) care here in Lafayette, so the place you sleep and the place you get care are working toward the same goal: a steady, sober routine you can carry into the rest of your life. Sober living is not a clinic and it is not a lockdown. It is a real home with real expectations, where you practice the everyday parts of recovery: getting up on time, keeping your space clean, being honest with the people around you, and showing up for treatment. How to get started

What is sober living?

A sober living residence, sometimes called a recovery residence, is shared housing that is free of alcohol and drugs, built for people who are actively working on their recovery. A bridge, not a waiting room For many people, the hardest part of recovery is the gap between a structured program and going back to old surroundings. Sober living fills that gap with a stable place to live while new habits take hold. Accountability among peers Housemates keep each other honest. Living with others in recovery makes it easier to ask for help, harder to hide a slip, and more natural to celebrate progress. Practice for independent life Cooking, budgeting, chores, a regular schedule, keeping commitments. Sober living is where those everyday skills get rebuilt, one ordinary day at a time.

Who it's for

Sober living through our partner may be a good option for adults who want a stable, substance-free home while they are in care with Riceland Recovery. It may be a good fit if you: • Are stepping down from residential or inpatient treatment and are not ready to go straight home • Are starting or continuing IOP or outpatient care with us • Don't have a living situation that supports early recovery • Want the structure and company of others who are doing the same work We can talk through whether sober living makes sense for you and help connect you with Riceland Sober Living Residences, which handles its own eligibility and openings.

What to expect

Structured sober living works because everyone in the home agrees to the same ground rules. Expectations at most recovery residences include: • Keeping the home completely free of alcohol and drugs • Agreeing to drug and alcohol testing • Staying active in treatment and in recovery meetings or support groups • Sharing household chores and keeping your own space tidy • Working, going to school, volunteering, or actively looking for work • Taking part in house meetings, and respecting curfew and guest guidelines • Treating housemates, neighbors, and the property with respect Riceland Sober Living Residences will walk you through its own house agreement, including costs and requirements, before you move in, so there are no surprises.
